Iris 1 North Location

The apartment is located in a lovely part of the Amsterdam city centre. You are right on the edge and that means that it is less hectic than the rest of the centre. The “plantage wijk” is very green for a city standard. The reason for this is that in the 17th century when this part of the city was built the sales of houses were not as good as they had expected. Therefore many houses were not finished leaving a lot of land open. People started to use this land for gardens and it is therefore that it is still so green and is named “plantage wijk” meaning plantation district. But there is more biological entertainment around. At the end of the street is Hortus Botanicus, a botanical garden that is considered one of the oldest in the world and owner of more than 4000 types of plants. Also you are very close to the Artis Zoo, this late 19th century Zoo has a typical character with many of the original buildings still in place. Only minutes away you can take a tram. Trams are relatively cheap in Amsterdam but more important is that they take you almost anywhere you like. Go to the Museum Square for example, where you can visit the Rijksmuseum that has a large collection of famous Dutch masters. Or visit the Van Gogh museum that is right next to the Rijksmuseum, this museum has the largest collection in the world of this eccentric painter.
