The most historic building in the Nieuwmarkt is De Waag, which was built in 1481 and the place where goods were weighed so taxes could be paid when ships entered the city. Many major attractions are within walking distance of the apartment including Waterloo Square, Dam Square, the Red Light District, Central Station and China Town. The World Heritage Listed Central Canal Belt is also just minutes from the apartment and must be seen on any trip to the city. While there make sure you visit Museum Van Loon to see how the Dutch merchant elite lived during the Golden Age.
