You are located in a more tranquil area of the Amsterdam city centre named the Plantage Wijk. This area was part of the 4th large city expansion in the 17th century and because not enough houses were sold back then people created larger gardens then planned. The Dutch word for plantation is plantage and it was of the many gardens where this area got its name from. You are minutes away from Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. They have over 4000 types of plants varying from palms to cactuses. Also close by is the Artis Zoo, founded in 1838. With several buildings dating back to these early days the Zoo has a typical atmosphere that cannot be found in most modern Zoo’s. Walk to the tram stop and experience how you can get almost anywhere in Amsterdam by using this efficient network. Go to Leidse Square for example, where you will find many restaurants and pubs making it an excellent nightlife location. And when you had enough you simply take the tram back home.
