You can find the JB Platinum apartment located to the south of the city centre in the Watergraafsmeer neighbourhood. Lying just a minute’s walk form the beautiful River Amstel, the street is very quiet and pleasant. For a leisurely walk into the old historic centre head north along the Amstel itself. You will find some of the prettiest city architecture along the way and you will cross some charming bridges. Look out for the Skinny Bridge that crosses the river. It features famously in the 1971 James Bond classic, Diamonds are Forever. Eventually you will come to the delightful Waterlooplein Flea Market where you can pick up just about anything as an unusual souvenir of your holiday in Amsterdam. Try your best to haggle for a bargain and don’t forget your camera as this is a great place for unusual photo opportunities.

To get around the city quicker, head to either the Amstel train, metro and tram station which is very close by or alternatively you can jump on a tram or the metro at nearby Wibautstraat. Both locations will take you to and from Central Station in no time at all. Why not hire bicycles and experience the city as a slightly faster pace? ‘Going native’ on two wheels is really a great way to see the city and it keeps you cool on a warm summer’s day as you will feel the breeze as you zoom along. Cycling in Holland is extremely safe compared with just about any other European city. You will find dedicated cycle lanes on almost all major roads and car drivers will normally give you the right of way. You can hire bicycles from any of the very reasonably priced rental shops in the centre. You will usually need a form of identification like a driving licence or passport and a small bond of cash to hire each cycle.
