Stadionplein Apartment Location
|
You will find the Stadionplein Apartment located to the south west / 'old south' area of the city centre alongside the historic Olympic Stadium that was constructed for the 1928 Olympic Games. Originally holding 31,600 sports fans it later was used as the official ground for the city’s AFC Ajax until the creation of their current home the mammoth Amsterdam Arena. Today it is used to house an excellent and informative museum concentrating on the history of sport and is called the Olympic Experience Amsterdam. Receiving over 10 million visitors every year, the stunning Vondelpark lies to the north of the apartment. The park measures a mile long and is beautifully landscaped with water features and thousands of trees. As you make your way round you can stop off at any of the three excellent cafes located in the middle and at each end. Arguably the prettiest has to be the Blue Tea House which was built in the 1930s in a typical Art Deco style of the time. The cylindrical shape allows a near 360 degree view of the park from the upper level. Relax with a delicious frothy Amsterdam coffee and watch the wild green parrots swooping and diving above your head. Getting to and from Central Station is extremely easy since you can hop on a tram at Stationsplein just few minutes’ walk away. You could of course ‘go native’ and hire bicycles for the duration of your holiday. It’s much cheaper than using public transport, sometimes quicker and certainly more healthy and fun. It’s also a great way to keep cool in the summer months. |
