Rue de Richelieu is one of the most upmarket addresses in the 1st arrondissement of the city. Just steps away is the Palais-Royal, a palace and garden which stands opposite the north wing of the Louvre. This was originally the residence of Cardinal Richelieu and later the main residence of the House of Orleans. A few minutes walk away is the infamous Louvre Museum, as well the Tulleries Gardens, Place de la Concorde and Champs Elysees. For shoppers, Les Halles is also within walking distance, while the world famous Boulevard Haussman, with the Galleries Lafayette and Au Printemps department stores, are also a walk away. If the purpose of your short stay is business, you'll find plenty of metro links here should you need to travel, while the French Stock Exchange is only moments away. As ever in central Paris, you'll be spoiled for choice when it comes to bistros, restaurants and cafes, and the Seine is just a short walk away for a romantic stroll to view the lights for which this city is so famous. |
