Grand Place II Location
|
Your apartment is very close to Den Haag Centraal or the central station. Holland is a small country so it will not take much time to travel to other cities. About 10 minutes away is Delft, a beautiful old historic city. Delft is known for its typical Dutch town centre with many canals and old monumental buildings and for the painter Vermeer who lived and worked in this city in the 17th century. The Hague is also the city of palaces because since the 13th century The Hague has been the political centre of Holland. Queen Beatrix resides in a palace called Huis Ten Bosch. This palace is located in the Haagse Bos. The queen works in the Noordeinde Palace. If you are lucky you can see the prime minister or other ministers visiting this palace to discuss important matters of state. When the Dutch red, white and blue flag and the Royal Banner are hanging in front of the palace this means that the queen is in the palace. The Hague is also the city of international politics and is the home to over 150 international organizations. The International Court of Justice is also called the World Court and is situated in the Peace Palace. This court settles legal disputes between countries.
