Your apartment is very close to the Central Station. You can take the train to see another city. Rotterdam is only about 20 minutes away and this modern city has the biggest port in Europe. There are boat tours which will take you in this port and the guide will tell you more about this beautiful, modern port. Delft is about 10 minutes from The Hague. This old town of Delft has many historic canals and beautiful monumental canal house with typical Dutch step gables. The Delft pottery is famous all over the world. This blue and white pottery in which a white glaze is applied originates from the 16th century. The Gevangenpoort is a medieval prison which is located close to the Binnenhof and the Hofvijver. In those days convicted criminals were not sentenced to prison. If somebody was suspected of a crime then he would go to prison to be tortured to get a confession. They almost always confessed because the torture was awful. In this museum you can see how they tortured the poor people. Once they confessed then the judges would rule a punishment. This could be the death penalty, a fine, a corporal punishment or exile.
