Prince Palace I Location
|
The Haagse Bos is not far away and it can be reached by foot. This is a large forest in the centre part of The Hague of about 100 hectare. In this forest you will find many paths and benches and also a big pond where you can spot many different kinds of birds. The stork has returned to this park after a long period of absence. This is important for the locals because the stork is in the Coat of Arms of The Hague. During the Second World War the Germans used this forest as a launching place for the V-1 and V-2 rockets to attack Great Britain. The palace where Queen Beatrix resides, Huis ten Bosch, is located in the Haagse Bos. The Malieveld is a large grass field of about 10 hectares in the middle of The Haque. This is the place where fairs are held but also demonstrations of protesters against a certain political measure of the government. Once a year the Tong Tong Fair which is an Indonesian fair takes place on the Malieveld. Thousands of Indos (mixed Dutch-Indonesian), Dutch, Moluccans, Javanese and others come to this fair to eat delicious meals or lunches form the Indonesian kitchen like sate kambing (roasted goat meat on a stick). Many artists sing songs in the Indonesian language or you can enjoy the bibit theatre.
