This apartment is located on the corner of the Noordeinde Street in the heart of The Hague. Noordeinde is a street with nice galleries, restaurants and shops. It is also an elegant street with monumental buildings and where Queen Beatrix has her office at the Noordeinde Palace. The prime minister and other politicians will come to visit the queen to inform her about the latest political developments. When the Dutch red, white and blue flag and the orange Royal Banner are hanging in the wind in front of the palace means that the queen is in the palace. A bronze statue of the queen’s grandmother, Queen Wihelmina is situated in front of the palace. Another statue is Prins William of Orange sitting on a horse. This prince was the first royal of the house of Orange. The Hague has been the political heart of Holland since the early Middle Ages. The Binnenhof means in Dutch the inner court and it is a complex of buildings. It has been the location of the meetings of the Dutch parliament, the Staten-Generaal, since 1446. It started as a parliament of nobles or knights who advised the counts of Holland. Count Floris V of Holland built his mansion on this spot in the 13th century. On the Binnenhof you will find the Ridderzaal or the Knight’s Hall where the queen holds her annually Throne Speech in September to inform the Dutch about the political decisions for the next year.
