East Quarter Apartment 5 is located in the eastern part of the city centre in a district known locally as the Dapperbuurt. It is home to not only the beautiful Oosterpark, just a moment’s walk away, but also a wealth of excellent Surinamese and Indonesian restaurants. The area is famous for its 200-stall market called the Dappermarkt. Selling everything from clothing, textiles to food, it was once named one of the ‘world’s top ten city markets’ by National Geographic Traveller magazine. The nearby Tropen Museum, housed in an impressive building, tells the fascinating story of Dutch colonialism.

In the adjoining leafy Plantage district just a few minutes away lies the famous Artis Zoo, one of the oldest zoos in Europe. Children will particularly enjoy interacting with animals more native to Holland in the excellent petting zoo. Here you will find sheep, goats and chickens which you can feed. Don’t miss the purpose build 19th century aquarium at the rear of the zoo grounds which features an amazing marble lined hallway containing giant tanks displaying unusual underwater creatures. Meanwhile a visit to the Hortus Botanicus (Botanical Gardens) is particularly recommended if the weather is not so great or it’s cold day. Here you can walk between giant cacti in rain-forest-like temperatures and see cannabis growing wild in the gardens outside.

I enjoyed a pleasant stay at this apartment in a nice location near Oosterpark. I would recommend it to anyone who is going to Amsterdam for a short break.

Modern design, nice place, good bar in the corner, mainly suitable for young people or for 2 persons, but it was ok, and the surprise wine was also a pleasant gesture.
