Dance, theatre and the arts form an effervescent festival centred around the IJ harbour. Amsterdam Noord, the hinterland North of the IJ harbour, is known for its peaceful residential areas and green, natural surroundings. But in the beginning of July it transforms into a factory for creative productions. Take the free ferry behind Amsterdam Central Station to cross the IJ river and you’ll find yourself on the lively festival grounds, located at the former NDSM shipyard.
As the festival specialises in location-specific theatre, there will be heaps of performances taking place in unusual locations: in a shipyard, in shipping containers, and in an old Russian submarine. But be aware that some events may be in Dutch, others in English, and some with no words at all.
